80% of Cosmetics May Contain Carcinogens

April 24, 2007

The Environmental Working Group found that 80% of all cosmetics may contain cancer causing chemicals, including more than half of all baby soaps.

Seven common carcinogenic ingredients are:
1,4-dioxane, hydroquinone, ethylene dioxide, formaldehyde, nitrosamines, PAHs, and acrylamides.

The government does not require that these ingredients are labelled as carcinogens.

From Mike Adams, executive director of the Consumer Wellness Center:

Remember that any creams or cosmetics you put on your skin get absorbed into your blood. Don’t put anything on your skin that you couldn’t safely eat!
